We are delighted to be working with a well-established market leader in the research and development of medical simulation products that are clinically accurate to enhance students' learning. Our client aims to provide repeatable, anatomically accurate and cost-effective training solutions to help medical students to become more competent and confident learners.

The Role

The Senior Product Designer will be responsible for the design and specification of our products, particularly in the earlier stages where thorough medical understanding is fundamental. Good drawing and model making skills are also required. Other accountabilities include research and development of new products, provision of medical advice throughout the company and improving and maintaining standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Bridging area between FRD/PSD and physical model
  • Resolution of anatomical, functional, and material issues with consideration of production issues
  • Continued involvement with subsequent development
  • Project planning
  • Understanding and translation of the training requirements and how these can be best met by the training models
  • Communication with customers in some cases of poor function of products, and working with them and R&D and other departments to resolve such situations
  • Well-designed prototypes that can be passed on to other team members for continued development
  • Good communication with marketing department and medical advisors/customers
  • Good communication with other R&D members involved in the project
  • Successfully resolved prototype completed on schedule
  • Continued support of those involved in subsequent stages of development, resulting in a successful product
  • Acknowledged for providing of good advice and support throughout company
  • Successful resolution of such issues, resulting in improved product and good customer relationship

Qualifications / Requirements / Experience

  • Biomedical Engineering Degree or similar / equivalent
  • 6 - 8 years' medical device design experience
  • Strong Medical knowledge based on medical training and experience in medical practice
  • Good CAD Skills (Solidworks) would be an advantage
  • Good understanding of design and design engineering principles would be an advantage
  • Possess good sculpting, model making and mold-making skills
  • Good communicator and team working skills
  • Basic engineering skills - turning, milling, drilling etc.
