When Dr Khizar decided to look for a new Salaried GP position, her priorities were clear: she wanted a role closer to home, with working days that fitted around her circumstances.

Having first spoken a few years previously, David Thorburn at Prospect Health understood Dr Khizar’s preferences and career ambitions so when she relocated to a new area, he was well placed to assist her find her next role as a GP in Southampton, by leveraging his network of practices in the area.

With David’s support throughout the interview and hiring process, Dr Khizar successfully secured the role and is now working four sessions across two days each week.

Looking for the right GP role

For Dr Khizar, location and working pattern were particularly important when considering her next move.

She was looking for a practice closer to home that would reduce her commute, while also allowing her to work on the days that suited her.

The Southampton opportunity offered both.

“I was looking for something near to my house, and the days I preferred to work were available here.”

Support throughout the recruitment process

David began by taking the time to understand what Dr Khizar wanted from her next position, including her expectations and preferred working arrangements.

He then liaised with the practice before arranging an initial informal interview.

Ahead of the meeting, David also provided information and guidance to help Dr Khizar prepare for the conversation and understand what to expect.

Following a successful first interview, David remained involved and arranged the next stage of the process.

For Dr Khizar, having someone available to coordinate communication between herself and the practice helped keep everything moving.

“He was easy to talk to, available on the phone and messages, and he made the process much smoother.”

A GP job that fits around her life

Dr Khizar is now settled into her new Salaried GP position, working four sessions over two days.

The role delivered on the factors that mattered most to her, a shorter commute and a working pattern that suited her needs but also delivered a sessional rate in line with her expectations.

She told us that she is enjoying her new position and would recommend both David and Prospect Health to other GPs considering a career move.
