Field Service Engineer - Scotland & NI

Are you an experienced Field Service Engineer with a background in clinical engineering, medical devices, or another technically demanding environment?

We're working with a leading technology-driven organisation that provides specialist products and solutions to the mission-critical Emergency Services sector and related markets. Due to continued growth and investment in its engineering function, they are looking for a Field Service Engineer to join their Clinical Engineering team, covering Scotland.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a technically capable, customer-focused engineer who enjoys working autonomously, being out in the field and playing an important role in keeping critical services operational.

The Role

Working closely with a central engineering team, you will provide field-based engineering support to customers across Scotland, with occasional travel to other areas of the UK.

You will be responsible for the servicing, calibration, maintenance and repair of medical devices, ensuring equipment is maintained to the highest standards and customers receive a responsive and professional service.

You'll work with a wide range of stakeholders, from technical engineering colleagues through to operational and clinical teams, so excellent communication skills and the confidence to engage with customers are essential.

The role offers a high degree of autonomy, with responsibility for planning and managing your own workload and site visits, while working closely with the wider engineering and customer-facing teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Service, calibrate, maintain and repair a range of medical devices across customer sites.
  • Plan and manage field visits effectively to maximise engineering time and customer support.
  • Work closely with engineering and account colleagues to coordinate workload and site activity.
  • Carry out engineering activities in line with required quality and compliance standards.
  • Provide technical support to customers both remotely and on site.
  • Maintain accurate records of all engineering activity using the organisation's medical device database.
  • Participate in quality improvement and continuous improvement activities.
  • Manage personal engineering stock and ensure appropriate replenishment.
  • Identify recurring technical or customer issues and provide feedback to the wider business.
  • Support post-market surveillance and relevant internal reporting requirements.
  • Liaise with other departments where customer queries require additional clinical, technical, logistical or commercial support.
  • Attend training, meetings and development activities as required, with occasional overseas travel possible.
  • Provide engineering support elsewhere in the UK when required, including in exceptional circumstances such as Field Safety Corrective Actions.

About You

We're looking for an engineer who is technically confident, self-motivated and comfortable working independently.
You'll ideally have:

  • A strong background in Clinical Engineering, medical devices or another engineering environment where quality and compliance are fundamental.
  • A relevant Level 3 engineering/technical qualification (e.g. ONC) or equivalent experience is desirable.
  • Experience working from technical manuals, instructions and engineering documentation.
  • Strong digital skills, including Microsoft Office, cloud-based systems and engineering databases.
  • The ability to analyse information and data to make informed decisions.
  • Excellent customer-facing and communication skills.
  • A proactive and professional approach, with the resilience to work effectively in busy and occasionally challenging environments.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage your own workload and diary.
  • A full UK driving licence.
  • Experience or working knowledge of defibrillators and patient monitors would be particularly advantageous.

What's on Offer?

  • Salary up to £43,000
  • Circa 10 - 20% annual bonus
  • Company vehicle
  • Corporate benefits package
  • Field - based role covering Scotland & NI (Bi-Monthly visits typical)
  • Monday - Friday, typically 9am - 5pm
  • Excellent training and development opportunities
  • The opportunity to work with specialist technology supporting mission-critical Emergency Services
  • A varied role combining technical engineering, customer interaction and independent field work
  • Occasional UK-wide and overseas travel
