Pharmacist, Gisborne, New Zealand
Coastal Lifestyle, Career Progression & Ownership, Community Impact

We are partnering with a well-established and fast-growing community pharmacy group in New Zealand to recruit a Pharmacist for a modern, high-performing pharmacy in Gisborne, New Zealand

This opportunity suits pharmacists looking to step away from high-pressure city environments and into a role offering career development, long-term ownership potential, and an exceptional lifestyle in one of New Zealand's most unique coastal regions.

Why Gisborne?
Gisborne offers a lifestyle few places can match, sun, surf, space, and community.
  • Famous for being the first city in the world to see the sunrise
  • Warm climate and relaxed coastal living
  • Affordable housing compared to major cities
  • Minimal commute times and a strong sense of community
  • World-class beaches, surfing, fishing, hiking, and wineries on your doorstep
  • For pharmacists relocating from the UK and Ireland, Gisborne represents a genuine quality-of-life upgrade, slower pace, safer communities, and more time outside of work.

The Role
You'll work in a busy, community-focused pharmacy providing free prescriptions and a wide range of essential clinical services, including:
  • Vaccinations
  • Emergency contraception
  • UTI consultations
  • Front-line primary healthcare services
  • The pharmacy is well supported with dispensing automation, experienced technicians, and multiple pharmacists, allowing you to focus on patient care rather than volume pressure.

Career Progression & Ownership Pathway
This role offers far more than a standard dispensary position.
  • Clear progression pathways are available into:
  • Pharmacist in Charge (PIC) roles
  • Senior clinical or regional leadership positions
  • Managing Partner/Co-Owner opportunities with equity
For pharmacists with aspirations beyond employment, structured financial support and banking partnerships are available to help eligible pharmacists transition into pharmacy ownership, a compelling and increasingly rare opportunity globally.

Registration, Relocation & Support
International pharmacists are fully supported throughout the transition to New Zealand:
  • Completion of the New Zealand Pharmacy Council clinical exam
  • Supervised practice on arrival (typically 4-8 weeks, often shorter for experienced candidates)
  • Supervised pay rate: NZD $45 per hour
  • Upon full APC registration, pay increases, strong performers may start above NZD $50.88 per hour
  • NZD $10,000 relocation allowance (taxed locally)
  • Key professional costs covered, including APC registration fees and insurance reimbursements
  • Community pharmacists are on New Zealand's Green List, supporting clearer residency and visa pathways.

A Note on Salary Comparisons
We encourage candidates not to directly compare NZD salaries to GBP.
The value of this role lies in lifestyle, housing affordability, safety, healthcare, and ownership potential, which together deliver a significantly improved overall proposition.

Who This Role Is Ideal For
  • UK, Irish, and international pharmacists seeking lifestyle change
  • NZ-registered pharmacists aiming for leadership or ownership
  • Pharmacists who want meaningful community impact alongside career growth
