The Role
The Optical Assistant will be responsible for delivering exceptional front-of-house service and supporting the clinical team in the day-to-day running of the practice.
Key duties include:
- Welcoming patients and providing a warm, professional first impression
- Helping customers choose frames and lenses that suit their needs and style
- Booking appointments and managing the diary system efficiently
- Carrying out basic pre-screening tests and using in-practice technology
- Ensuring frame displays are clean, tidy, and well-stocked
- Providing aftercare advice and assisting with repairs and adjustments
- Supporting dispensing staff and Optometrists to ensure smooth patient journeys
- The position is based primarily in Shifnal, with occasional cover at the nearby Telford or Newport practices.
- Candidates must be available to work one weekend day (Saturdays only).
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will:
- Have a positive, can-do attitude and a genuine passion for helping people
- Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Be organised, reliable, and confident working in a busy retail environment
- Have previous experience in optics or retail/customer service (preferred but not essential)
- Be keen to learn and grow in a supportive and modern clinical setting
- Enjoy being part of a close-knit team and contributing to the success of a new store
Salary & Benefits
- £21,000£28,000 per annum, depending on experience
