Optical Assistant Opportunity - Brand new practice - Telford

Salary: £21,000£28,000 depending on experience

A brand-new, state-of-the-art optical practice is opening in Shifnal in February 2026, just minutes from Telford Centre and they're looking for a friendly and enthusiastic Optical Assistant to join their growing team.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with strong people skills and a passion for excellent customer service. Whether experienced in optics or new to the industry, full training and support will be provided for the right candidate.

About the Practice

• Set in a beautifully refurbished former bank on the high street, the new practice will feature:
• Four fully-equipped consulting rooms
• On-site audiology services
• The latest optical technology, including OCT and digital dispensing tools
• Excellent transport links (just 20 seconds from the train station)

The Role

The Optical Assistant will be responsible for delivering exceptional front-of-house service and supporting the clinical team in the day-to-day running of the practice.

Key duties include:

• Welcoming patients and providing a warm, professional first impression
• Helping customers choose frames and lenses that suit their needs and style
• Booking appointments and managing the diary system efficiently
• Carrying out basic pre-screening tests and using in-practice technology
• Ensuring frame displays are clean, tidy, and well-stocked
• Providing aftercare advice and assisting with repairs and adjustments
• Supporting dispensing staff and Optometrists to ensure smooth patient journeys
• The position is based primarily in Shifnal, with occasional cover at the nearby Telford or Newport practices.
• Candidates must be available to work one weekend day (Saturdays only).

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will:

• Have a positive, can-do attitude and a genuine passion for helping people
• Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Be organised, reliable, and confident working in a busy retail environment
• Have previous experience in optics or retail/customer service (preferred but not essential)
• Be keen to learn and grow in a supportive and modern clinical setting
• Enjoy being part of a close-knit team and contributing to the success of a new store

Salary & Benefits

• £21,000£28,000 per annum, depending on experience
