A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Veterinary Surgeon to join a busy, forward-thinking small animal hospital near Southend-on-Sea. This role is ideal for an experienced vet who enjoys a hospital environment with access to advanced diagnostics, specialist equipment, and a supportive, collaborative team.

  • Excellent nursing support including Schedule 3 and imaging-trained RVNs, physiotherapists, hydrotherapist, and dedicated client care team
  • Exposure to CT, MRI, orthopaedics, ophthalmology, and rehabilitation services (hydrotherapy, physiotherapy, laser therapy)
  • Weekend sole charge responsibilities only
  • Minimal on-call (34 times per year)
  • CPD support and potential for certificate-level development

Key Duties

  • Deliver high-quality veterinary care for small animals in a hospital setting
  • Conduct consultations, routine surgical procedures, and treatment planning
  • Work cases to a high clinical standard with support from nursing and administrative staff
  • Occasionally cover weekend sole charge
  • Maintain excellent client relationships and uphold hospital standards of patient care

Working Pattern

  • Full-time, 40 hours per week (part-time considered)
  • 1 in 4 weekends
  • No routine out-of-hours responsibilities
  • Minimal on-call (34 times per year)
  • This structure allows for an excellent work-life balance while practising in a busy, modern hospital.

Practice Facilities

  • Purpose-built small animal hospital with modern equipment to support high-quality diagnostics and treatment
  • Large, experienced, and supportive team of veterinarians, nurses, and administrative staff
  • Open Monday to Friday: 8am 7pm, Saturday: 8am 12pm

Key Skills, Qualifications and Requirements

  • BVSc or equivalent qualification recognised in the UK
  • RCVS registration (or eligibility)
  • Experience in UK small animal practice
  • Comfortable working in a hospital environment and managing routine surgery, consultations, and weekend sole charge
  • Positive, collaborative approach and commitment to patient care
  • Certificate holders or those considering starting one will be fully supported
