Veterinary Surgeon

Veterinary Surgeon – First Opinion – Independent Practice – Altrincham

Location: Altrincham

Salary: £50,000 base + bonus (10–11% of turnover)

Hours: 4-day week (9am–7pm) + 1 in 3 Saturday mornings

Out of Hours: None

Consult Lengths: 15 minutes

We are working in partnership with a long-standing, independently owned small animal practice in the Altrincham, currently seeking an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to join their close-knit team. This is an excellent opportunity for a confident and communicative vet who enjoys working in a supportive environment with real clinical freedom.

The Practice

This is a friendly, RCVS-accredited first opinion practice with a well-equipped theatre, in-house lab, ultrasound, and endoscopy. The team prides itself on high-quality, consistent care and maintains excellent staff retention — many current team members originally joined on a locum basis before converting to permanent roles.

The Role

You’ll join a team of two full-time vets and one part-time vet, supported by a mix of experienced and student veterinary nurses. You’ll benefit from a consult–surgery split typical of most GP roles:

• Morning consults followed by procedures

• Afternoon break

• Evening consults

• Surgery generally begins at 10:30am

• 15-minute consults (with extra time built in by nursing team as needed)

There is some sole charge due to rota design, but the team are always available for case discussions. The practice refers most orthopaedic work and complex cases externally, although there is opportunity to develop surgical and imaging skills further.

About You

The ideal candidate will be:

• A small animal vet with 5–6 years’+ post-graduate experience

• Comfortable with general surgery and consulting

• A strong communicator with excellent bedside manner

• Keen to be part of a team-focused, low-turnover practice

• Open to clinical discussion and collaborative working

Key Benefits:

• £50,000 salary with bonus (based on 10–11% of personal turnover)

• 4-day week (9am–7pm)

• 1 in 3 Saturday mornings

• No out-of-hours or on-call

• 4 weeks’ annual leave

• Clinical freedom and supportive environment

• CPD encouraged; scope to invest in new equipment as needed
