We are recruiting on behalf of a friendly independent veterinary practice in rural Suffolk, offering an exciting opportunity to join an experienced and supportive team within a single-site practice.

The practice combines a strong first-opinion service with a range of referral disciplines, creating an excellent environment for a Vet who enjoys a varied caseload and wants access to experienced colleagues and advanced facilities.

The Role

You'll be joining a well-established clinical team with extensive combined experience, providing a varied first-opinion caseload alongside access to specialist support.

The practice has a strong culture of collaboration and knowledge sharing, with regular meetings, clinical discussions and CPD sessions designed to support both patient care and professional development.

You'll also have access to experienced RVNs and referral colleagues across a range of disciplines, allowing you to discuss cases, seek advice and develop your skills within a supportive environment.

The Team

You'll be joining a large and experienced multi-disciplinary team including:

• 6 first-opinion Veterinary Surgeons
• 4 Ophthalmologists
• Orthopaedic and soft tissue referral clinicians
• 20 Registered Veterinary Nurses
• Trainee and Student Veterinary Nurses
• Animal Care Assistants
• Over 100 years of combined clinical experience across the veterinary team

The practice places a strong emphasis on communication and continuity of care, with regular whole-team meetings and dedicated first-opinion clinical meetings covering case discussions, journals, presentations and general CPD.

Practice Facilities

The practice offers an impressive range of facilities and equipment, including:

• 8 consulting rooms
• 4 surgical theatres
• Separate dog and cat wards
• CT
• Ultrasound
• Digital X-ray
• Dental X-ray
• Comprehensive endoscopy equipment
• Laparoscopic equipment
• Respiratory ventilators
• Multi-parameter monitoring
• Well-equipped in-house laboratory
• Onsite cytology service
• Access to specialist referral facilities and expertise

Working Pattern

• Full-time position
• 4-day working week
• Typical hours of 8:00am6:00pm
• 1 in 6 weekend on-call commitment, running from Friday evening to Monday morning
• Four weeknight on-call periods across a 6-week cycle
• No additional Saturday work
• No routine additional Saturday shifts
• Rest time accommodated following an overnight emergency period
• Part-time or alternative working arrangements may be discussed with the right candidate

The practice takes a considered approach to out-of-hours care, with clients encouraged to contact the team only where genuinely urgent. The aim is to maintain a fair and manageable on-call system while ensuring colleagues are supported with appropriate rest following overnight work.

Key Skills, Qualifications and Requirements

• RCVS registered Veterinary Surgeon
• Experience in small animal first-opinion practice
• Confident managing a varied clinical caseload
• Good general medical and surgical skills
• Strong communication and client relationship skills
• Comfortable working collaboratively within a large clinical team
• Keen to develop clinical skills and knowledge
• Interest in working alongside referral clinicians and experienced colleagues
• A proactive and supportive approach to teamwork
