Michael’s Experience with Prospect Health
Finding the right pharmacy role isn’t always about doing more of the same. For Michael, working with Prospect Health opened the door to a very different opportunity and a new direction for his pharmacy career.
Gemma Brice at Prospect Health introduced him to an alternative employer and helped him secure a Pharmacy Dispenser job in Cardiff within a private pharmacy environment.
A few months into his new position, we caught up with Michael to find out how he was getting on and what his experience of working with Gemma had been like.
Finding the right Pharmacy Dispenser job in Cardiff
Although Michael had initially been searching for pharmacy opportunities himself, the position he eventually accepted wasn’t one he had applied for directly.
Gemma identified an opportunity that suited his experience and introduced him to the team.
“Gemma introduced me to the team, so I didn’t actually apply for the job itself. She put me in touch with them and then liaised with them regarding my interview and the contract as well.”
Having a recruiter managing communication between Michael and the employer also helped keep the recruitment process moving.
Michael added:
“She was very helpful when I was trying to get in touch with them. She was really, really nice.”
Moving into a different type of pharmacy role
Michael’s new position has given him the opportunity to experience an area of pharmacy very different from a traditional community setting.
The licensed private pharmacy works with clinicians across the UK and Ireland. Rather than patients visiting the pharmacy with prescriptions, prescriptions are received electronically from clinicians before being dispensed and sent directly to patients by courier.
For Michael, getting to grips with this new way of working has provided plenty of opportunities to learn.
“It’s very different from the role I was doing before. It’s mostly private here, so I’m just trying to catch up with all their services and things like that.”
It’s a change he has embraced.
“I’m enjoying it very much. It’s brilliant.”
A more manageable working environment
One of the biggest differences Michael has noticed compared with community pharmacy is the working environment; his days have a very different pace and structure.
“The days are a lot more manageable as we don't interact with patients coming into the pharmacy, it's all done over the phone or electronically.”
As well as enjoying his current position, Michael is already thinking about how he can continue developing his pharmacy career and hopes to undertake his Pharmacy Technician qualification in the future.
Would Michael recommend Prospect Health?
When we asked whether he would recommend Gemma and Prospect Health to other pharmacy professionals looking for a new position, Michael was happy to do so.
“Gemma was very helpful. She was really, really nice.”
For Michael, working with a specialist pharmacy recruiter meant being introduced to an opportunity he hadn’t found himself, and ultimately discovering a completely different type of pharmacy environment.
