Veterinary Surgeon

If you enjoy working in a proper hospital environment - with the time, tools and team to do things right - this could be a fantastic next step.

We're working with a busy, forward-thinking 24-hour small animal hospital in Basildon, just 30 minutes from London by train, close to Stansted and Southend airports, and only 25 minutes from the coast. It's a well-established site where clinical standards, collaboration and staff wellbeing genuinely matter.

This is a purpose-built hospital that offers far more than first-opinion work alone. You'll have access to CT and MRI, alongside emergency and critical care, orthopaedics, ophthalmology and a growing rehabilitation service including hydrotherapy, physiotherapy and laser therapy.

The team is large, experienced and genuinely supportive. You'll be working alongside 14 vets, including medical and surgical certificate holders, with others currently studying towards further qualifications. Nursing support is excellent, with many Schedule 3 and imaging-trained RVNs, plus physiotherapists, a hydrotherapist and a dedicated client care team - so you can focus on being a vet, not spinning plates.

This is a hands-on, all-round veterinary role in a hospital setting, ideal for someone who enjoys variety, teamwork and developing their clinical confidence further.

  • 4-day working week (40 hours) - Part time considered
  • 1 in 4 weekends
  • No out-of-hours
  • Minimal on-call (around 34 times per year)

You'll be an MRCVS Veterinary Surgeon with experience in UK small animal practice, comfortable working in a busy environment and keen to keep learning. Whether you already hold a certificate or are thinking about starting one, you'll be fully supported to develop your interests.

Most importantly, this is a team that values good communication, shared responsibility and kindness, both with clients and colleagues.

If you'd like a confidential chat about the role, the team or whether this would suit you, get in touch - we'd be happy to talk it through.
