Veterinary Surgeon

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon with a strong interest in exotics to join a thriving 24-hour RCVS-accredited Small Animal Hospital in Essex.

This well-established referral and first opinion hospital combines an outstanding clinical caseload with excellent facilities and a highly collaborative team, making it an ideal environment for a vet looking to further develop their career within exotic animal medicine while continuing to work alongside an experienced multidisciplinary team.

The Practice

You'll become part of a large and supportive clinical team comprising 14 Veterinary Surgeons, including certificate holders in surgery, medicine and exotics, with several others currently studying towards advanced qualifications in orthopaedics, cardiology and internal medicine.

The practice is also home to an exceptional nursing team, including Schedule 3 and diagnostic imaging-trained nurses, alongside qualified hydrotherapists, physiotherapists and a dedicated client care team, ensuring outstanding support across every aspect of patient care.

The hospital has invested heavily in its facilities and offers access to:

  • CT and MRI imaging
  • Digital radiography and modern ultrasound equipment
  • Comprehensive in-house laboratory
  • Dedicated operating theatres
  • Hydrotherapy and physiotherapy suites
  • Rehabilitation and laser therapy services
  • 24-hour inpatient and emergency care

Located just 30 minutes by train from Central London, the practice benefits from excellent transport links while also being within easy reach of the Essex coastline.

This position would suit an experienced Veterinary Surgeon with an interest or experience in exotic animal medicine who enjoys working in a progressive clinical environment.

The successful candidate will benefit from:

  • 4-day working week
  • 40-hour full-time rota
  • 1 in 4 weekends
  • No routine out-of-hours
  • Minimal on-call commitment (approximately 3-4 occasions per year)
  • Flexible part-time applications welcomed (weekend participation required)

Applicants should have previous UK small animal practice experience and be confident working within a busy clinical environment. A genuine interest in exotic animal medicine is essential, whether already well established or looking to continue developing this area of practice.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a progressive hospital that places genuine emphasis on clinical excellence, professional development and delivering exceptional patient care, while maintaining an excellent work-life balance.
