Weekend Vet Surgeon

Weekend Veterinary Surgeon, Chichester/ Storrington, West Sussex
Salary: £50,000 - £65,000 + FTE DOE (Pro Rata), Flexible Weekend Rota, Independent Veterinary Practice

Are you an experienced Veterinary Surgeon looking for a flexible weekend role that allows you to maintain your clinical skills while enjoying an excellent work-life balance?

Prospect Health is working with a highly regarded, independent veterinary group in West Sussex to recruit an experienced Weekend Veterinary Surgeon to join its friendly and supportive team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a confident Small Animal Vet who enjoys emergency and out-of-hours work and would like to become part of a well-equipped, collaborative veterinary environment.

With the flexibility to work weekends every two, three, four or six weeks, this position could be ideal for a vet looking to supplement their existing role, reduce their working commitments or enjoy a more flexible approach to veterinary practice.

The Opportunity

Our client operates modern, well-equipped veterinary hospitals in Chichester and Storrington, providing high-quality first-opinion and emergency veterinary care.

As a Weekend Veterinary Surgeon, you will be based at one of these hospitals, working within an experienced team that values clinical independence, collaboration and high standards of patient care.

The hospitals benefit from excellent facilities and a dedicated on-site night team, allowing you to focus on delivering outstanding veterinary care with the support of experienced colleagues.

You will also have access to Advanced Practitioner referral services, providing additional clinical expertise for more complex cases.

The role involves managing a varied emergency and urgent care caseload, including cases referred from surrounding veterinary practices.

Our client is committed to creating a positive and supportive working environment where veterinary professionals feel valued and have the freedom to make appropriate clinical decisions.

Working Hours and Rota

One of the key attractions of this opportunity is the flexibility available around weekend working.

The rota includes:

  • Saturday and Sunday daytime shifts
  • 10-hour shifts
  • Flexible weekend frequency of every 2, 3, 4 or 6 weeks, depending on your preference
  • Opportunity to work within an established emergency veterinary service
  • Support from an experienced veterinary team and dedicated night service
  • This flexibility makes the position particularly attractive to experienced vets seeking a regular weekend commitment without the demands of a traditional full-time working week.

Salary and Benefits

Our client offers a competitive salary and benefits package designed to support your professional development and wellbeing.

Benefits include:

  • Competitive salary of £50,000 - £65,000+ FTE, depending on experience and additional qualifications
  • Salary pro rata according to hours worked, based on a 40 hour full-time working week
  • Generously funded CPD to support continued clinical development
  • Workplace pension
  • 40% staff discount on veterinary care for your own pets
  • Occupational health resources and mental health support
  • Enhanced parental leave of six months at 90% pay, subject to qualifying service
  • Enhanced sickness benefit of two weeks at full pay, subject to qualifying service
  • Supportive working environment within a well-established independent veterinary group
  • Access to experienced colleagues and Advanced Practitioner referral support

About You

We are looking for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon who enjoys the clinical variety and challenges that come with emergency and weekend veterinary work.

You will have:

  • MRCVS registration
  • A minimum of three years' experience in small animal veterinary practice
  • At least one year's experience working in UK veterinary practice
  • Previous experience managing emergency and urgent care cases
  • Confidence working in a busy weekend and out-of-hours environment
  • Strong clinical decision-making and communication skills
