Small Animal Practice

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Veterinary Surgeon to join a well-established, independent small animal practice with multiple sites near Derby. This role is ideal for a vet looking for a supportive environment that offers clinical development, varied caseload, and a strong work-life balance.

You'll be joining a progressive independent group with an experienced team and excellent nursing support, providing high standards of care across a diverse caseload.

Key Duties

  • Deliver high-quality first-opinion veterinary care for small animals
  • Manage a varied caseload, including occasional exotics and wildlife
  • Work collaboratively with an experienced clinical and nursing team
  • Participate in the out-of-hours rota with appropriate support and incentives
  • Maintain excellent clinical standards and client relationships

Working Pattern

  • Full-time: 4 days per week (8:30am - 7:00pm)
  • 1 in 5 Saturday mornings
  • Out-of-hours: 1 weeknight and 1 weekend in 5, with bonuses per case
  • Sole charge required during out-of-hours and Saturday mornings
  • This structure offers a fair and manageable approach to out-of-hours, supported by strong incentives and team collaboration.

Practice Facilities

  • Independent, multi-site small animal practice (3 sites)
  • Modern, well-equipped clinics
  • Team of 10 vets, including certificate holders in surgery and imaging
  • Large, experienced nursing team including RVNs and student nurses
  • Varied caseload providing excellent clinical exposure

Key Skills, Qualifications and Requirements

  • BVSc or equivalent qualification recognised in the UK
  • RCVS registration (or eligibility)
  • Ideally 2+ years' experience in small animal practice
  • Confident in general practice and routine procedures
  • Comfortable with some sole charge responsibilities
  • Positive, team-oriented approach with strong communication skills
