Veterinary Surgeon

An exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon to join a friendly, independent practice in the Wirral area. This is an excellent opportunity for a vet looking for genuine clinical freedom, a varied caseload, and the support of an experienced, close-knit team where patient care always comes first.

This role would suit a confident GP vet who enjoys both consulting and surgery and is looking to work in an environment free from corporate targets, with the flexibility to develop their own clinical interests.

Key Duties

• Deliver high-quality first-opinion veterinary care
• Manage a varied caseload of consultations, medical work-ups and surgery
• Perform routine and more advanced surgical procedures with dedicated operating sessions
• Work cases through from initial consultation to discharge
• Care for inpatients
• Undertake occasional home visits where appropriate
• Support and mentor students and less experienced colleagues
• Work collaboratively with an experienced veterinary and nursing team

Working Pattern

• Full-time role
• Typical working hours: 9:00am 6:00pm
• Approximately 6 Saturdays per year
• No out-of-hours
• Dedicated operating days built into the rota
• Minimal sole charge responsibilities

Practice Facilities

This well-established independent practice offers modern facilities and a varied caseload, allowing vets to fully investigate and manage cases in-house.

Facilities include:

• Digital X-ray
• Ultrasound
• ECG
• Endoscopy
• Laparoscopy
• Fully equipped in-house laboratory

The practice also enjoys an interesting caseload that includes small animals alongside occasional exotic species, helping to provide excellent clinical variety.

Key Skills, Qualifications and Requirements

• BVSc or equivalent qualification recognised in the UK
• RCVS registered (or eligible)
• Previous experience in small animal practice (new graduates are not being considered)
• Confident with both medicine and routine surgery
• Strong communication and client care skills
• Enjoys working as part of a collaborative team
• Passionate about delivering high standards of patient care
