Equine Vet Surgeon

An established, independently owned veterinary practice in North Yorkshire is seeking an experienced Equine Veterinary Surgeon to join its growing and highly regarded team.

This is a rare opportunity to join a genuinely progressive independent practice where clinical standards, team culture, and client relationships still come first. The role can be tailored around the right individual - whether your preference is predominantly equine, a true mixed equine/small animal position, or equine-focused with occasional small animal involvement.

Located within easy reach of York and the North York Moors, the practice benefits from a loyal and engaged client base, an expanding equine caseload, and significant ongoing investment in facilities and equipment.

This position has become available following the departure of a much-valued team member relocating overseas after several successful years within the practice. As a result, the team is looking for an experienced vet ready to step into an influential and rewarding role with genuine scope for progression.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to:

  • Help shape and further develop the equine service
  • Influence clinical direction and caseload growth
  • Play a key role within a collaborative and supportive team
  • Develop leadership responsibilities over time
  • Explore future partnership opportunities for the right individual

The practice offers a supportive and collaborative working environment with real clinical freedom - no corporate targets, no restrictive protocols, and encouragement to pursue individual interests and ideas. The working pattern is designed with balance in mind, typically based around a four-day week with a sensible 1 in 4/5 out-of-hours rota and a loyal, well-established client base.

Facilities are exceptionally well equipped for equine work and include stabling, stocks, trot-up and lunge areas, advanced imaging equipment, gastroscopy, modern dental kit, laser therapy, and strong nursing support. Continued investment in new equipment and services is actively encouraged where there is clinical value and enthusiasm behind it.

The practice is keen to hear from vets with at least two years' experience who are confident with routine equine work and enjoy building strong client relationships. Interests in areas such as lameness, medicine, or dentistry would be welcomed, though attitude and team fit are considered just as important as clinical interests.

For those seeking a role where they can continue developing their equine career within a supportive independent practice, while still enjoying autonomy, variety, and work-life balance, this is an opportunity well worth exploring.
