We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established small animal practice in the Halifax area, offering an excellent opportunity to join a friendly and experienced team with a loyal client base and a strong focus on delivering high-quality patient care.

The role would suit a Veterinary Surgeon who enjoys a varied first-opinion caseload and wants to work within a collaborative environment, with potential opportunities to develop mentoring and leadership skills in the future.

The Role

This is a varied first-opinion position covering both medical and surgical cases. You'll have the opportunity to use and develop your clinical skills across a broad caseload, while benefiting from the support and experience of colleagues around you.

The practice offers a high level of clinical autonomy, allowing you to make decisions in the best interests of your patients while having access to experienced colleagues for advice and support when needed.

There is also close collaboration with a nearby veterinary hospital, which provides an out-of-hours service. This means the role remains focused on first-opinion work without a routine OOH commitment.

Working Pattern

• 40 hours per week
• Working across 4 or 5 days
• Part-time applications considered
• No routine out-of-hours
• No regular on-call commitment
• Good work-life balance with a focus on sustainable working patterns

Practice Facilities

The practice operates from a purpose-built facility designed to support both routine and more complex first-opinion cases.

Facilities include:

• Three dedicated consulting rooms
• Fully equipped operating theatre
• Purpose-built clinical environment

• Access to support from experienced veterinary colleagues
• Close links with a nearby veterinary hospital for out-of-hours and more advanced case support

The Team

You'll be joining a friendly, experienced and collaborative team who are committed to providing excellent standards of patient and client care.

The team places a strong emphasis on supporting one another, sharing knowledge and helping colleagues develop their confidence and clinical skills.

There is scope for the successful candidate to become involved in mentoring and leadership, although this is not essential for the role.

Key Skills, Qualifications and Requirements

• RCVS registered Veterinary Surgeon
• Experience within first-opinion small animal practice
• Confident managing a varied medical and surgical caseload
• Strong clinical and diagnostic skills
• Committed to delivering high standards of patient care
• Excellent communication and client relationship skills
• Able to work collaboratively within a supportive team
• Keen to continue developing clinical skills and knowledge
• An interest in mentoring colleagues or progressing towards a leadership position would be welcomed
• Experienced Vets who enjoy supporting and developing others are encouraged to apply
