Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon - Weston-super-Mare

Are you an experienced Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon who enjoys the variety of first-opinion practice but wants access to the facilities, expertise and clinical support to take cases further?

We are recruiting on behalf of an independent, family-run small animal practice in Weston-super-Mare, which has been established for almost 30 years and continues to invest in its people, facilities and clinical offering.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced GP Vet who enjoys a varied caseload, likes to work cases up thoroughly and values being part of a collaborative team. You don't need to hold a certificate or have a particular niche interest - being a confident, capable all-round GP Vet is what matters most.

The Role

You'll have the opportunity to manage a varied first-opinion caseload while benefiting from excellent in-house diagnostic and surgical facilities.

The practice has invested significantly in its facilities, including a brand-new CT scanner, giving the team the ability to investigate and manage increasingly complex cases without automatically needing to refer elsewhere.

• Two operating theatres
• Dedicated imaging suite
• Dental suite with dental X-ray
• Endoscopy suite
• Separate dog and cat areas
• Dedicated dog and cat entrances and waiting areas
• Separate consulting rooms

• RWAF Silver accreditation

Whether your day involves consulting, surgery, dentistry, imaging or inpatient care, you'll have access to the equipment and clinical support needed to provide a high standard of first-opinion care.

The Team

You'll be joining an experienced team of 13 Veterinary Surgeons, with certificate holders across a range of disciplines including:

• Cardiology
• Dermatology
• Surgery
• Emergency and Critical Care
• Feline Medicine

The nursing team also brings additional expertise and qualifications across areas including anaesthesia, consulting, ECC and imaging.

This creates a strong knowledge-sharing environment where colleagues are encouraged to discuss cases, seek second opinions and learn from one another.

If you do have a particular clinical interest you'd like to develop, you'll be actively supported, with certificates fully funded and a flexible approach to CPD rather than a restrictive fixed budget.

Working Pattern

• Full-time, 40 hours per week
• 4-day working week
• Flexibility around working hours can be discussed
• 1 in 5 weekends
• Two Veterinary Surgeons working together on Saturdays
• Sunday shifts alternate between a shorter morning consulting shift and a longer inpatient/ECC day
• No out-of-hours duties
• No night duties

Key Skills, Qualifications and Requirements

• RCVS registered Veterinary Surgeon
• Experienced in small animal first-opinion practice
• Confident managing a varied caseload independently
• Comfortable with routine medical and surgical cases
• Strong clinical reasoning and diagnostic skills
• Enjoys the variety and breadth of general practice
• Good communication and client relationship skills
• Able to work collaboratively within an experienced team
• Comfortable taking ownership of cases
• Keen to continue developing clinical skills and knowledge
• A particular certificate or specialist interest is not essential
