Director of Primary Care
I have spent over 20 years working in recruitment spanning the primary care, healthcare, veterinary, disability and education sectors. Having started out as a Recruitment Consultant initially, I have worked in a variety of roles up to my current role as Director heading up our Primary Care offer to clients and candidates – this covers a full range of services under our ‘Total Workforce Solutions’, including locum, contract, staff bank and permanent solutions…

Hi, I’m Dave Thorburn, and I oversee Audiology recruitment here at Prospect Health, covering most of England.
Having previously worked in sales, I have been with Prospect Health since 2016 and am very fortunate to work alongside a great set of colleagues.
I work with a wide range of clients across the Audiology, Optometry and General Practice both in the UK and internationally.
I have developed strong relationships with many UK, Australian and New Zealand practices and businesses, helping them find new healthcare professionals where they may have struggled with traditional advertising…
Specialist Recruitment Consultant
My name is Leah. I am part of the General Practice team here at Prospect Health. I joined the business in January 2023 and now help run the recruitment of GPs, Optometrists, Audiologists, and other clinical staff from Yorkshire all the way down to Berkshire, as well as helping GPs relocate to Australia and New Zealand.
As well as seeking jobs for medical professionals, I also work closely with the practices and businesses themselves in order to meet their requirements around staff.
Ashley was super helpful communicating with the team in Canada to smooth the process. I would recommend Prospect Health to anyone looking at relocating to Canada!
“We first reached out to Prospect Health in March 2025, and by July we had begun working together to align our recruitment needs. Before partnering with them, we faced challenges in filling key locations at the volume required, controlling placement fees, and managing candidates’ expectations around remuneration and relocation to Canada. Prospect Health has done an excellent job preparing candidates for their transition, while ensuring alignment with our mandates and expectations. Working with Ashley and the Prospect Health team has been smooth and efficient, low touch from our side, but high value in return…”
“Working with Ese has been excellent. Previously, I handled recruitment on my own along with the practice manager, but Ese has made the process so much easier. Their webinars and job adverts are really effective. Although Ifrah hasn’t officially started yet, she seems very happy with the experience so far. I would definitely recommend their services”
“Prospect Health was instrumental in helping us find the right doctors for our clinics. Prior to working with them, we had tried multiple local agencies in Australia with little success. Their innovative approach, including webinars and targeted job advertisements, made a real difference in attracting qualified doctors. The Doctors placed are thriving in their roles and from all reports, our doctors feel happy and supported. We would absolutely recommend Prospect Health to any practice looking to recruit top talent.”
State Manager
I have been thinking about relocating myself and my family to Toronto to practice as a GP for a while. I have friends who are living in Toronto and they are often telling me how amazing the lifestyle is and what the country and Toronto specifically has to offer.
I first came into contact with Ashley at Prospect health following an email he sent me regarding GP Jobs in Canada and I decided to give him a call.
Ashley has been fantastic and extremely patient throughout this entire process so far.
Of course, it is a huge decision to consider migration, and one to consider deeply, especially with your family. He was very approachable and easy to talk to. He was enthusiastic even, although he himself has never worked in Canada. The best piece of advice he gave me, I still remember even now. He said ‘lead with your children’, prior to my scheduled meeting. And indeed, so far, so good.
Ashley was very well organised and provided me with very thorough information, every step of the way.
Ashley knows a lot about Canada’s licensing process, contracts, visa application, etc. He is very honest and trustworthy, and I have felt
Ashley has been an outstanding facilitator and mediator throughout the whole application process, he has arranged meetings with my prospective employer, one on one contract reviews, responded to queries promptly and followed up my application at timely intervals.
Overall, Prospect Health’s mediation/ ongoing support during this transition phase has timely and professional and I would recommend them to other GPs looking to make the move to Canada.”
A massive thank you to Prospect Health for all your hard work, patience, and support throughout this process.
I know there were a few wobbles along the way from me however you were always available to reassure and then chase up on my behalf.
Your support with contract negotiations at the start of the process gave me a lot of confidence to ask for what I needed to make this move to the other side of the world work.
It was a big step but I can’t recommend and thank you enough and I have already recommended you to a few friends as it is!
I would like to personally thank Prospect Health for everything thus far providing an excellent service in making my move to Australia as smooth as possible.
Specifically, I have been impressed by your cheerful, polite and respectful manner towards me and always being helpful, approachable and willing to find out the answers to my queries.
I would definitely recommend you to prospective doctors thinking about relocating overseas.
My contact at Prospect health is one of the best and really thorough, hard working guys at Prospect Health. He is extremely dedicated to his work. He provided us a focused “one to one” placement service. He ensured the options best matched to our needs and cultural fit. Not only this he also ensured that the employers and candidates are the optimum match.
He is always very enthusiastic to help and would always pay great attention to details. He is very flexible and will even out of the way to address your concerns and arrange meeting to navigate you to the new unknown journey if you are a busy family like us. I will say he is good listener and a visionary too.
Beside all, he was very friendly and pleasant. He is a take-charge person who kept us motivated too, and always came up with some creative solutions to any complexities we had in the process. Finally, He is totally worth recommending. I would recommend him 100% due to his patience and being calm even in a stressful situation. Good Luck and all the best!
Excellent communication, very knowledgeable, professional and patient. Thanks for all the hard work through this process Prospect Health
I had the idea of moving to Australia initially for a year to work as a GP and I came across Prospect Health. Once I made the decision to go ahead with the plan to work in Australia I was guided though the somewhat daunting series of steps required from initial identification requirements, to the registration process with AMC, RACGP, AHPRA etc. and I was able to keep in frequent contact whenever needed. I was also helped with the final steps of getting a provider number and tax file number / ABN / GST numbers which are needed before starting work.
I am working in a medical centre in South Australia and am finding it an enjoyable place to work, working with a mixture of walk in patients and some who are becoming more familiar. I see mostly patients on a “first available doctor” basis but do have a limited number of pre-bookable appointments. I have immediate access to XR, CT, radiology including interventional radiology on site, and enjoy undertaking procedures in the treatment room such as suturing.
I find that working full time with a reasonable number of out of hours consults generates an income that compares

More time to enjoy life beyond medicine.

The country is known for its relaxed lifestyle, strong sense of community and emphasis on enjoying time outside work.
Depending on the practice and position, GP jobs in New Zealand can offer flexible working arrangements, part-time opportunities and supportive team environments, allowing doctors to find roles that better suit their personal and professional priorities.

Enjoy a temperate climate and four distinct seasons.
New Zealand’s climate is another attractive feature for GPs considering a move from the UK.
The country experiences four seasons, with generally warmer weather in the north and cooler conditions further south.
Auckland and the Bay of Plenty offer mild winters and warm summers, while Christchurch and Queenstown provide a more seasonal climate, with opportunities to enjoy skiing and winter sports.
Whether you prefer coastal sunshine, mountain scenery or a combination of both, New Zealand offers a range of locations to suit your lifestyle.
Why the climate may be a reason to relocate to Australia as a General Practitioner
For General Practitioners (GPs) in the UK considering an international move, relocating to Australia as a GP presents an exceptional opportunity to combine professional fulfilment with an enviable climate.
Australia’s weather is one of its greatest assets—offering sunshine, warmth, and outdoor living that contrasts sharply with the UK’s colder, greyer conditions.
Finding the right balance between income and lifestyle.
Understanding the cost of living is an important consideration when moving to New Zealand as a GP.
Everyday expenses, housing costs and transport can vary considerably depending on where you choose to live, with Auckland and Queenstown generally attracting higher property costs than many regional locations.
However, competitive employment packages and the availability of roles outside major cities can make New Zealand an appealing option for GPs and their families.
Our recruitment team can help you explore opportunities in locations that align with your salary expectations, career ambitions and preferred lifestyle.
Is the Cost of Living Better or Worse for a UK GP Looking to Move to Australia?
For many UK GPs, Australia offers more than just sunshine and lifestyle appeal. Higher salaries, better work-life balance, and attractive relocation opportunities continue to make Australia one of the most popular destinations for doctors considering a move abroad.
However, one of the biggest questions remains: Does the higher salary actually translate into a better standard of living?
A welcoming country with a strong sense of community.
New Zealand is well known for its friendly communities, relaxed atmosphere and cultural diversity.
Māori culture is central to the country’s national identity, while its multicultural population creates a welcoming environment for people relocating from overseas.
For UK GPs, the shared English language and familiar aspects of everyday life can help make the transition easier, although there are important differences in healthcare delivery and cultural practice.
Whether you’re working in a bustling city or a smaller regional community, there are opportunities to build meaningful relationships with patients and become an integral part of local life.
An exciting opportunity for the whole family.
For GPs relocating with children, New Zealand offers a family-friendly environment with access to education, outdoor recreation and welcoming communities.
The country provides a range of state and independent schooling options, alongside universities and further education institutions.
Many families are drawn to the opportunity for children to grow up surrounded by nature, with beaches, parks and outdoor activities forming part of everyday life.
For doctors considering a long-term move, choosing the right location is about much more than the GP position itself. Our team understands the importance of finding an opportunity that works for the whole family.
Take your GP career in a new direction.
New Zealand has an ongoing need for qualified General Practitioners, creating opportunities for suitably experienced overseas-trained doctors.
GP jobs are available across a variety of healthcare settings, from larger multidisciplinary medical centres in cities such as Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch to smaller community practices in regional and rural locations.
Working as a GP in New Zealand can provide exposure to a diverse patient population, opportunities to develop clinical interests and the chance to make a meaningful difference within local communities.
For UK-qualified GPs, relocating also offers the opportunity to experience a different healthcare system while continuing to build on existing clinical knowledge and experience.
Attractive earning potential and rewarding career opportunities.
GP salaries in New Zealand can be competitive, with remuneration influenced by experience, location, working hours and the type of practice.
Some GP employers may offer additional benefits, including relocation assistance, professional development support, flexible working arrangements and contributions towards registration or immigration-related costs.
Opportunities in regional and rural locations may provide additional incentives to attract experienced GPs.
When considering a move, it’s important to assess the complete employment package alongside living costs and your personal circumstances.
At Prospect Health, we help candidates understand the opportunities available and identify positions that match their career and financial expectations.

Pay Structures, Work Opportunities, and What to Expect
When considering a move overseas as a General Practitioner (GP), one of the biggest questions is how remuneration and employment opportunities differ between countries. Australia and the UK, while both offering rewarding careers, operate under very different systems that can significantly shape a GP’s day-to-day experience and long-term prospects.

Helping you navigate your move to New Zealand.
Moving overseas to practise medicine involves several important steps, including professional registration, securing a suitable GP position and obtaining the appropriate visa.
UK-qualified GPs must meet the requirements of the Medical Council of New Zealand before practising. The registration pathway depends on your qualifications, specialist training and clinical experience.
New Zealand also offers immigration pathways for eligible healthcare professionals, including potential routes to residence for qualifying General Practitioners.

Although there is a shortage of GPs in Australia and the lifestyle on offer is certainly enviable enough to attract huge numbers of people looking to emigrate, there are strict requirements in place for any overseas-trained GPs looking to apply for a job and make the move.
